Medical Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for SSI in New Hampshire, you must meet one of the following medical conditions:

• Age 65 or Older: Individuals aged 65 or older may qualify based on age alone, without the need to prove disability.
• Blindness: Defined as central visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye with the use of a correcting lens, or a visual field limitation such that the widest diameter of the visual field subtends an angle no greater than 20 degrees.
• Disability: A medically determinable physical or mental impairment that:
• Results in the inability to engage in substantial gainful activity (SGA).
• Is expected to result in death or has lasted or is expected to last for a continuous period of at least 12 months.

For children under 18, the disability must result in marked and severe functional limitations and meet the duration requirement.

Financial Eligibility Criteria

In addition to medical requirements, SSI applicants in New Hampshire must meet financial criteria:

• Income Limits: SSI is intended for individuals with little or no income. The income limits vary based on living arrangements and other factors.
• Resource Limits: Countable resources must not exceed $2,000 for an individual or $3,000 for a couple. Resources include cash, bank accounts, stocks, bonds, and real estate (excluding the primary residence).
